Join us as New Ark Chorale presents a program promoting a message of peace. Featured work: Local premiere of The Peacemakers, by Karl Jenkins. The Peacemakers is an hour-long work for chorus and orchestration, drawing on texts by a range of iconic figures who have extolled peace and tolerance, including Percy Bysshe Shelley, Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Albert Schweitzer, St. Francis of Assisi, Sir Thomas Malory, Rumi, Nelson Mandela, Bahá'u'lláh (founder of the Bahai faith) , and Anne Frank, as well as words from the Bible and the Qur'an, with some new text specially written by Terry Waite. The composer cites a line he sets by Rumi (the 13th-century Persian mystic poet) as summing up the ethos of the piece: ‘All religions, all singing one song: Peace be with you’.
